HANNAH GROVER - MELT THE HETERONORMATIVITY, NOT THE WITCH: SAPPHIC FANDOM SUBVERSIONS OF GREGORY MAGUIRE’S WICKED SERIES


This mind map details the complexities of sapphic representation in a vast array of media. These ideas will subsequently inspire a script surrounding positive representation of sapphic folks in mainstream and alternative media. I pose the following research questions— What does making a series with other sapphic people reveal about what kinds of representations sapphic fans are seeking? How might using a creative production as a prompt open up discussions and future prospects for positive representations? These questions will be rooted in the following research interests: women’s scriptwriting, positive 2LGBT+ representation, and fan communities.
